1. What are cookies
Cookies are small text files that websites send to the user's device (computer, tablet, smartphone), where they are stored before being transmitted back to the same websites on subsequent visits. They serve various purposes: performing computer authentication, monitoring sessions, storing information about specific configurations of users accessing the site, and more.
Under Article 122 of the Italian Privacy Code (Legislative Decree 196/2003, as amended by Legislative Decree 101/2018), Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR), and the Guidelines on Cookies and Other Tracking Tools issued by the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, 10 June 2021), the installation of non-technical cookies requires the user's prior, free, and informed consent, with the exception of technical cookies strictly necessary to provide the service.
2. Types of cookies used on gianetmedia.com
2.1 Technical cookies (necessary — no consent required)
These cookies are essential for the correct functioning of the site and do not require user consent, as they are strictly necessary to provide the requested service (Article 122(1) of the Privacy Code).
| Cookie | Provider / Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| XSRF-TOKEN | GiaNet Media (Laravel platform) — protection against CSRF (Cross-Site Request Forgery) attacks when submitting forms and requests to the server. | Session |
| trovido-session (application session) | GiaNet Media — maintains the user's session while browsing (e.g. cart, private area, multi-step forms). | 2 hours |
| user_theme | GiaNet Media — stores the user's preference for light or dark interface theme. | 1 year |
| cookie_consent | GiaNet Media — stores the choices expressed by the user via the cookie banner, avoiding repeated requests on every visit. | 1 year |
| remember_web_* | GiaNet Media — enables the "Remember me" login function, so the user does not need to re-enter credentials at every access. | 30 days |
2.2 Third-party cookies
Some services embedded in the site, provided by third parties, may set their own cookies. GiaNet Media has no direct control over such cookies: for full details, please refer to the privacy policies of the respective providers.
| Cookie | Provider / Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| __stripe_mid, __stripe_sid | Stripe, Inc. — technical/security cookies necessary for fraud prevention during online payment processing. | According to Stripe's policy (typically from session to 1 year) |
| cf_* (Cloudflare Turnstile), if present | Cloudflare, Inc. — anti-spam and anti-bot protection for the site's contact form. | Session |
| _ga, _gid (Google Analytics) | Google Ireland Ltd. — anonymous/aggregated analytics on site usage. Active only if expressly enabled by the Data Controller. | _ga: 2 years; _gid: 24 hours (if enabled) |
3. Profiling cookies
The gianetmedia.com website does not use advertising profiling cookies, meaning it does not track the user's browsing habits for targeted marketing or behavioral advertising purposes, and does not share browsing data with third parties for advertising purposes.
Any future activation of Google Analytics (referred to in section 2.2) is carried out, where applicable, in aggregated/anonymized form and in any case only after the user's explicit consent via the cookie banner, in accordance with the Italian Data Protection Authority's Guidelines of 10 June 2021.
4. How to manage or disable cookies
Users can manage their cookie preferences in two ways:
4.1 Site consent banner
On first access to the site, a banner is shown allowing the user to accept, reject, or customize the use of non-technical cookies. The preferences expressed are saved in the cookie_consent cookie and can be changed at any time via the "Manage cookie preferences" link/button located in the site footer.
4.2 Browser settings
Cookies can also be managed or deleted directly from the browser settings. Links to the guides of the main browsers are provided below:
- Google Chrome: support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
- Mozilla Firefox: support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/enhanced-tracking-protection-firefox-desktop
- Safari: support.apple.com/en-us/guide/safari/sfri11471
- Microsoft Edge: support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge
Please note: disabling technical cookies (e.g. XSRF-TOKEN, application session) may compromise the correct functioning of the site, for example preventing access to the private area or the submission of forms.
5. Legal basis and duration of consent
The legal basis for processing depends on the type of cookie:
- technical cookies: the Data Controller's legitimate interest in providing the service requested by the user (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR); no consent is required under Article 122(1) of the Privacy Code;
- non-technical third-party cookies (e.g. any Google Analytics): the user's free, specific, and informed consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and Article 122 of the Privacy Code), which can be withdrawn at any time with future effect.
Consent given via the banner is recorded and remains valid for a maximum of 12 months, after which it will be requested again. Consent can be withdrawn at any time via the "Manage cookie preferences" link or by changing browser settings.
